Best local experience in Sri Lanka over our 2 weeks.
This experience was amazing start to finish. Pick up and drop off was smooth from Galle train station, we then went to vegetable market where Madhu spoke about all the different vegetables so we were able to pick what ones we wanted. We then went to a fish market and picked fresh prawns caught on the day. On arrival at Madhu’s home we were greeted by her mother and husband, everyone was so welcoming! We made 11 Sri Lankan dishes in the end and each one was incredible. BEST food we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Madhu and her mother are so knowledgeable and this has been passed down from generations. Dessert of pancakes were also delicious! Really nice touch too as Madhu made a portion for our driver which we loved giving him. We recommend this to anyone visiting around the Galle area. An experience we will not forget! Thanks again Madhu and family for your hospitality and brilliant cooking course.
What a way to start 2020
What a fantastic way to start 2020! Sudesh was excellent when helping to organise this experience last minute. It was ideal to be able to be collected and dropped from Galle. We learnt so much and it was so interesting to see how Madhu made traditional curries. It definitely inspired us to keep eating Sri Lankan style food when we get home. Madhu explained everything so well and it was great to go to the market, especially to choose and learn about the vegetables we then cooked with. It was one of the best experiences we have had out of the many activities we have done whilst in Sri Lanka. Would highly recommend doing this.

You may see that this cooking class has over 100 5* reviews and think, ‘surely not?!’. But yes – it’s true… this is the best cooking class in Sri Lanka and here’s another five star review to attest to that. We opted for the full experience of going to the market to buy the food. We really enjoyed being able to see where the food came from, pick out our own vegetables and fish and see how the food here varies from our home. We then went to Madhu’s house which is so beautiful and homely. It has a lovely garden and an amazing authentic kitchen. We then set about making 11 dishes including curries and poppadoms. After we’d learnt how to make them we of course got to eat them. And needless to say they were delicious!! This really was one of our best experiences in Sri Lanka. And it’s the best cooking class I have done on my travels because it was just the two of us and we really got involved. A massive thank you to all the family.
